Believe it or not, we have the ability to prevent cancer. By observing the foods we intake and adhering to healthy living, we can stop cancer in it’s trailblazing path.
We’ve analyzed the cancer world for years now and some believe that the way we study and diagnose cancer is drastically flawed. Our focus has gone away from the actually treatment of the disease to a prolonging of the suffering patient’s life. Many scientist are under the impression that cancer is an incurable disease.
Though we have made some advances in fighting cancer, there is still lots that can be done. Since 1990, reports of cancer have dropped 1% every year which may sound like good news but the statistics remain that one out of every two American men and one out of every three women will develop some form of cancer during their lifetime (Cuomo, 1). Cancer has been able to withstand and adapt to practically all of the treatments doctors and scientists have thrown at it. The best methods of fighting the disease still involve burning, cutting or poisoning but these treatments are risky in and of themselves as they open the door for other potential life-threatening diseases.
So what’s going on? The National Cancer Institute has spent $90 billion on research and treatment since 41 years ago. This research has provided vast knowledge on the biology of the disease but has failed to promote the main way to stop the disease: preventing it in the first place.
What we need to do is focus our efforts on promoting a campaign which shows people how to prevent cancer in the first place. One of the easiest ways to do that is to display healthy eating habits for people which can save their life. Here are a few tips:
1. Buy organic
Pesticides are running rampant on many foods and they’re linked to cancers. Look for the USDA organic seal.
2. Make fruits and vegetables part of your daily consumption
Eat a rainbow! By that we mean to consume fruits and veggies that are fresh and pack many antioxidants and other rejuvenating ingredients
3. Include fiber
Want to decrease your chance of colon cancer? Of course you do. Every 10 grams of daily fiber lowers your risk by 10%
4. Eat fish
Inflammation is linked to cancer and fish rich in omega-3 fatty acids help to reduce that
5. Consume green tea
Green tea has a slew of health benefits attached to it, a few of which are its ability to protects cells from DNA damage, strengthen the immune system, and activate enzymes that prevent tumors
6. Get the recommended intake of vitamin D
Blood levels that have this vitamin are associated with lower rates of colon, breast, and ovarian cancers
7. Use turmeric
This spice can cure pretty much anything because it’s a polyphenol, a special type of antioxidant, and it just so happens to be an anti-inflammatory.
8. Avoid red meat
Red meats are linked to colon, prostate, pancreas, and kidney cancers
9. Limit consumption of alcohol
Women should have no more than one drink daily, men, no more than two.
The first step to living a cancer free life is to prevent it from even entering your life. Start applying these cancer prevention tips and start enjoying life without the fear of cancer.
