We dined at Pacifica Breeze Cafe recently, mostly because it was a gorgeous day in San Diego and also because they have a full bar.  I was feeling breakfast-y, and this turned out to be a terrific place to get a hearty brunch.

The dining area is all outside and the café is small, very comfortable and very San Diego.  We ordered the cinnamon brioche French toast, which was rich, sweet and fluffy, and they actually did a thorough soak on the bread, which is rare and is the reason why I almost never order French Toast because I always wind up sending back and eliciting more eye rolling from my companions.  This French toast was great.  We ordered the Breeze Huevos which is a light and fresh version of huevos Rancheros, and also the Braised Beef Short Rib Hash- very tasty, meaty and the poached eggs were perfect.  I like a runny poached egg yolk as a condiment.  It also happens to be one of my favorite burger toppings. Other happy eaters next to me enjoyed toasted pecan waffles and what looked like a very expensive bowl of granola.  Hey at least it comes with a view.  And a full bar.  On my next visit I’ll have to try the short rib grilled cheese or the crispy chicken sandwich with golden raisin marmalade.  The service is friendly, their huge fresh baked cookies are soft and the cappuccinos are served in giant cups, I get breakfast and I get to feel petite. Definitely my kind of place.

All in all this breezy outdoor café has everything you’d want in coastal southern California, friendly staff, tasty food, good prices and of course, a full bar. I get a dense chocolate tart to go and receive a friendly wave from the staff.  The best part is, it’s located in historic Del Mar Plaza, a beautiful open air mall where you can walk it all off.
